A wonderful event we are happy to share with you - David Williamson visits the Oscar Lathlin Research Library for a poetry reading! With introductions provided by Keith Hyde, the evening begins with Joseph Atoyebi introducing the talking drums from Nigerian culture, providing insight into the history of the Dundun/Gangan. As Joseph plays he explains the construction of the drum, highlighting the unique ability the performer has to control the tone, and how it is played. He then goes on to perform using both the Mother and Daughter Drum. Following Joseph’s performance, David Williamson takes the stage explaining why he invited a drum performer to join him for the evening. David then provides a brief overview of his poetry career before sharing pieces from his latest book Through Disassembled Houses of Perfect Stones, adding insight, perspective, and commentary throughout!
